Hold Still (2020-present)
Artist's statement:
The advancement of time is fast, but during childhood it seems slow but fast at the same time. As a parent, I'm always wishing for the next stage - hoping it will get easier, but each stage provides separate challenges and then guilt is felt for wishing away time. These images represent the disruption of time that childhood places on a parent and how fleeting this time in life can seem, while also feeling long and chaotic. The brushstrokes and disruption of reality is the push of time and a visual representation of the quickness of my children growing up. The white mark making in some and/or choice of leaving some sections solid is my way of coping and trying to hold on to the impermanence that is childhood and life in general. Trying to sketch into memory eyes, ears, laughs, hugs and little voices that will one day grow.
Four little voices
Eight little hands
Grow
When you grow
Stay by me
Stay like this
Don't move
Hold Still
